Canon 850D DSLR Officially Announced; Priced From US$750

Canon has announced the latest addition to its entry-to-mid-level DSLR cameras with the 850D. The new DSLR is equipped with new features such as Face and Eye Detection Autofocus (AF), 4K video recording capability and an improved layout.

The Canon 850D packs a 24MP APS-C CMOS image sensor and a 45-point AF sensor with cross-type points for better and faster accuracy. It also features the newer Digic 8 image processor as well as the ability for 7fps continuous shooting. As for image stabilisation, the camera packs a 5-Axis Movie Digital IS system for video capture and burst shooting.

The new DSLR packs plenty of enhancements to its autofocus features such as Dual Pixel AF and Eye Detection AF in Live View mode, as well as Face Detection AF when shooting through the optical viewfinder. The 850D is equipped with Intelligent Tracking (iTR) automatic focus with a 220,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor, which provides high-speed accuracy for capturing fast-moving subjects.

Video-wise, the Canon 850D can record in 1080p up to 60fps and 4K footages at 25p. It also features additional options for video capture not found on its predecessors, such as time-lapse and automatic scene selection. One odd new feature included on the DSLR is the ability to shoot vertical videos. Most likely reserved for users who upload videos to TikTok or Instagram, but via a DSLR for some reason.

The new 850D comes in an improved layout with top and rear dials that control both shutter speed and aperture, a Quick control dial for settings, and a new AF-ON button. On its back is a 3-inch 1.04M-dot full articulated touchscreen LCD for Live View and image review purposes.

The Canon 850D DSLR will be out in April 2020 with a body price of US$750 (~RM3105) or bundled with an EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens for US$900 (~RM3730). Its availability and pricing in Malaysia has not been confirmed by Canon at this time.
