Epic Games Store Now Live; Launches With Two High-Profile Indie Titles

Two days after its official launch, Epic Games’ online store is finally live. In conjunction with its active status, users can also purchase two indie titles immediately from the store. These titles are Ashen from developer A44, and Hades from Supergiant Games, the developer responsible for giving us two other popular indie games, Bastion and Transistor.

At this stage, Epic Games currently has 14 titles on its list right now, which also Darksiders III and the critically-acclaimed Journey. However, aside from the earlier two titles, the other games are still pending launch on the new platform.

Below is the full list of games:

  • Ashen
  • Darksiders III
  • Hades
  • Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek
  • Genesis Alpha One
  • Journey
  • Maneater
  • Pathless
  • Rebel Galaxy Outlaw
  • Satisfactory
  • Subnautica
  • Super Meat Boy
  • World War Z

The new Epic Games store and digital platform is effectively a direct competitor to Valve’s Steam. While it’s no secret that the Fortnite developer will be facing an uphill battle against the industry leader and other digital PC game platforms (e.g. EA’s Origin and Ubisoft’s UPlay), the company is already setting itself apart from the crowd with its profits sharing model.

Instead of taking a typical 30% cut from developers, Epic Games only takes 12%. In addition, should a game be developed using the Unreal Engine, the developer will automatically waive its usual 5% royalty fee.
