Huawei Confirms The Mate 30 Series Does Not Come With Google Mobile Services

The relationship between the US and Huawei right now is shaky at best. Because of this, the latter’s access to Google’s Mobile Services has also been uncertain for the longest time. With the launch of the Huawei Mate 30 series, the company has confirmed that the new phones will not be using the search giant’s apps and services.

Huawei CEO Richard Yu ended the two-hour presentation talking about Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). Part of it confirms that the Mate 30 series cannot pre-install the Google Mobile Services (GMS) core. As a result, the phones will have to make use of the aforementioned HMS core.

Yu claims that there are over 45000 apps integrated with the HMS core. The company plans to incentivise growth of its HMS ecosystem with US$1 billion, which will be split into development, user growth and marketing funds.

All in all, this basically confirms earlier reports of the Mate 30 series not having the full Android experience. It’s still possible for the US ban to be reversed, but it remains to be seen if that actually happens.
