Nintendo Says No More Switch Hardware Announcement This Holiday Season

Nintendo announced its Switch Lite earlier this week, which is slated to be released on 20 September. The original Switch is also reportedly getting a minor upgrade. One question remains: when will the company announce the other variant? It looks like whenever that is, it’s not this year.

According to CNET, Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s President, said that the Switch Lite is the only Switch hardware for this holiday season. He also said that the larger Switch won’t get an upgrade right now. This does put the previous report on the original Switch getting a new chipset and storage into question.

The Nintendo Switch Lite will launch with a lower price than the original. It’s smaller, lighter, and comes with a proper d-pad, rather than four individual, separated buttons. But on the flip side, it doesn’t come with detachable Joy-Cons, and all of the features that come with them. And most crucially, it can’t connect to your TV.

For those who intend to use the Switch exclusively as a handheld, this wouldn’t be a problem. But if you’re sold on the original Switch’s idea and you’re waiting for the supposedly upgraded model that retains and improves on all the original’s features, then you’re in for quite the wait, unfortunately.
