OnePlus 8 May Have A 120Hz OLED Display

The OnePlus 8 Lite was previously reported to be passing on the 90Hz display to keep costs down. But it looks like the base model will come with an even more impressive display. In fact, the OnePlus 8 will reportedly come with a 120Hz QHD+ OLED display.

The information came from the 2020 Screen Technology event in Shenzen, China. Other bits of information that came from there include 10-bit HDR support and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The display also comes with what’s called a Motion Estimation / Motion Compensation (MEMC) chip. This is usually found in TVs, and it helps deal with motion blur.

Having a 240Hz touch sampling rate is impressive, but the OnePlus 8 won’t be the first to feature it. The Black Shark 2 had that, and it was released early last year. That said, the Black Shark 2, and even its Pro variant, only came with a 60Hz refresh rate. Having both a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz sampling rate makes it work a lot better for mobile gaming. This is, of course, assuming games start supporting the 120Hz refresh rate.

Unfortunately, no other information was revealed about the base OnePlus 8. As with the Lite model, there’s no word on when the company will be making an official unveiling of the phone.
