Qualcomm Debuts Snapdragon 720G, 662 And 460 4G Chipsets

Qualcomm has unveiled three new Snapdragon 4G SoCs with the 720G, 662 and 460 chipsets. These SoCs are designed for budget friendly smartphones, which offers fast 4G speeds, Wi-Fi 6 capability, Bluetooth 5.1, and are the first to support the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) GPS system.

The Snapdragon 720G is touted as an entry-level gaming SoC based on the 8nm process, and features the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem which supports download speeds of up to 800Mbps. The chipset sports several Snapdragon Elite Gaming capabilities, HDR gaming support, Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio, and a Spectra 350L ISP that enables a maximum photo capture resolution of 192MP. Other features include 5th gen AI Engine with Qualcomm Hexagon Tensor Accelerator support, and FastConnect 6200 Wi-Fi enhancements.

The 662 SoC is equipped with the Snapdragon X11 LTE modem which supports download speeds of up to 390Mbps. As for mobile photography, the chipset includes the Spectra 340T ISP that supports triple cameras as well as HEIF-format capture. It also features 3rd gen AI Engine with Hexagon Vector Extensions (HVX) which allows for AI enhanced night photography, face and voice ID, and the use of avatars.

Lastly, the Snapdragon 460 also features the same modem and AI engine as the 662 chipset. Qualcomm claims that the new 4-series offers improved performances of 70% for CPU and 60% for GPU when compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 450.

According to Qualcomm’s press release, among the brands that will release smartphones equipped with the new Snapdragon 720G chipset within 2020 include Xiaomi and realme. Devices featuring the 662 and 460 are expected to be released throughout the rest of the year as well.
