The Witcher 3 Sees Surge In Popularity After Launch Of Netflix Series

Netflix’s new series, The Witcher, officially launched last Friday and despite mixed reviews, the show is a hit among fans and newcomer alike. As a runoff of its popularity, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has reportedly seen a spike of gamers downloading and replaying the game on the PC.

The game, which is available on the Steam platform, saw a surge of more than 62000 players in the last 30 days, while over 31000 players were engrossed in the game in the last three hours. In retrospect, the last the game received this sort of attention was when its second expansion, Blood and Wine, became available in 2016. To put this in another perspective, and as pointed out by PC Gamer, the game currently has more players actively playing the game than Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC.

The game’s popularity resurgence aside, the Netflix series is already confirmed for a second season, which is expected, considering how the first season ended on a relatively cryptic cliffhanger. Additionally, its showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich, has also confirmed that there are plans to stretch out the series for seven seasons.

At the risk of making this all sound cheesy; we guess the fans really are tossing a coin for the Witcher.
