Xbox Series X Will Be Able To Run Multiple Games Simultaneously; NVMe SSD To Virtually Eliminate Load Times

Much like the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series X will also be coming with an SSD as its storage medium. And in the same way game devs think SSD storage is a big deal, Microsoft wants to use it to “virtually eliminate load times”, among other things.

According to GameSpot, the Xbox head Phil Spencer said that the Series X is twice as powerful as the Xbox One X. And eight times more powerful than the standard Xbox One. Despite this, Xbox partner director of program management Jason Ronald said “we’ve basically reached the limit of [what’s] possible with the traditional rotational drive”.

Ronald says that with the NVMe SSD, the Xbox Series X be able to greatly cut down on load times when moving from one level to another, or when fast-traveling from one end of an open world to another. In addition to improved load times, the Xbox Series X will also be able to run multiple games simultaneously. This is unlike current generation consoles that can only run one game at a time.

By extension, you’ll also be able to instantly share screenshots or clips you recorded. This will be unlike current generation consoles that require you to head to your capture gallery and manually upload your clips or screenshots. The Xbox Series X will also be getting a share button, similar to the one on the DualShock 4, to make this a faster process.

All these improvements are for “ensuring there’s less waiting and more time playing”, according to Ronald. It looks like the two consoles are matching each other feature for feature. Now, if only we can get confirmation that the console will be officially available on our shores.
