Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 May Be In Development; Rumoured With Qualcomm Snapdragon 660

Xiaomi might be readying a new Mi Pad tablet. Firmware files pointing to a yet unrevealed tablet from the Chinese manufacturer, although the data is still inconclusive as to whether it really is a new device.

The code examined by XDA Developers shows a tablet that is poised to be another mid-range tablet, much like Xiaomi’s previous tablets. Based on the firmware files, the upcoming tablet looks to be packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset with Android 8.1 plus Xiaomi’s customised MIUI 9 on top.

Though it is hard to confirm these type of leaks, XDA Developers does suggest a couple of interesting points to convince that the leak is legit. Firstly, that there are a couple of terms used in the firmware files that mention the word “pad” and also “tablet”. The firmware states that the tablet’s pixel density is at 320 DPI which suits a budget tablet. Next, the battery is rated at 6000mAh which is too big for a smartphone to have.

Files from the tablet’s camera configuration show that Xiaomi has put in a single 13MP OmniVision OV13855 sensor with a f/2.0 aperture on the back while the selfie camera will have a single 5MP Samsung S5K5E8 sensor with a f/2.0 aperture. Don’t expect any 4K video recording on the tablet but there will be a Portrait mode on the camera.

Back in October, a Xiaomi executive mentioned that it is working on a new tablet but there hasn’t been any update ever since. Currently, it has been about a year since the Mi Pad 3 was launched. So, it’s about time for Xiaomi to update its tablet offering.
