Xiaomi Releases Demo Video Of Redmi K30 5G Display Running With 144Hz Refresh Rate

Smartphones with high refresh rates are on clearly on the rise; OnePlus and Black Shark announced their own 120Hz displays, while Nubia very recently announced that the display for its next Red Magic 5G smartphone will have a 144Hz refresh rate. Not wanting to miss out on the latter, Xiaomi released a video showing off of its Redmi K30 5G and its display running at 144Hz as well.

The video was first posted by Lu Weibing, General Manager of Redmi, on his official Weibo account. The short video demonstration basically shows off the Redmi K30 5G running the Blur Busters’ Motion test loop.

It should be pointed out that by default, the phone’s display already runs at a native 120Hz refresh rate, which is evidenced by the Redmi K30 5G seen on the left in the video. On that note, Weibing made it clear that the test was performed in the company’s laboratory, but fell short of actually saying if it will release an update that would enable the phone’s display to achieve 144Hz.

While the video makes it clear that the Redmi K30 5G has the necessary hardware to pull off such a feat, there are still several factors to be considered. As pointed out by GSMArena, having 144Hz on a desktop gaming monitor makes a lot of sense, but to have that kind of high refresh rate on a phone display seems excessive. Even if for mobile game titles.

Then there’s the issue of power consumption. To run a smartphone with such a high refresh rate definitely consumes more power than the average 60Hz display, but having said that, it’s also important to remember that the average smartphone battery size has increased in the last few years.
